Strong Girls Fund
America SCORES Boston established “The Strong Girls Fund” to support girl-sensitive programming elements in its after-school soccer programs. The Strong Girls Fund honors the lifetime commitment of Anne Strong, a lawyer who left her private practice and dedicated the last 10 years of her career to bringing girl-sensitive/girl-specific programming and organized after-school sports opportunities to inner-city girls in Boston. Based on Anne’s years of dedicated work, we have not only seen a dramatic improvement in physical fitness within this at-risk group of girls, we have seen marked improvement in self-esteem, school work and in these girls’ expectations for success in the future.
To continue Anne’s work toward girl-sensitive programming, we are asking other to come together to support The Strong Girls Fund by pledging a set amount each year for a period of two to five years. Whether it’s $100 per year, $1,000 per year – or whatever amount works for you, a multiyear pledge will help to establish a solid and self-sustaining base for The Strong Girls Fund to incorporate critical girl-sensitive programming into the America SCORES Boston program for many years to come.

- 17 scored below proficient on the Language Arts section of the MCAS exam
- 20 have never participated in a community service activity
Fortunately, America SCORES Boston is Changing the Game. By joining the SCORES Program, our poet-athletes:
- Exercise by practicing and playing soccer with their team for over four hours every week
- Improve literacy skills by writing poetry and performing original work in front of packed audiences
- Build confidence and self-esteem by designing service projects that impact real social needs
The SCORES Program is proven effective for increasing fitness levels, academic skills, and community engagement among our poet-athletes. By contributing to America SCORES Boston, you enable students to participate in structured SCORES Program activities throughout the year. We are reaching out with the hope that you will support at the highest level you can.
